Planning a Boston Date
Local Dating Guide
Boston is a cultural city with a lot to offer, if you take a moment to think and get creative when planning a date. The typical Boston dating scene is filled with clubs that are hard to hear or be heard in, and the stand-by of dinner and a movie gets boring very quickly. There is so much to do in Boston that most people do not realize or do not take advantage of. Use this local dating guide to help you plan a great Boston date.
Make it a True "Boston" Date
Act like a tourist and embrace local dating by planning a Boston date that revolves around activities most locals scorn. Head to Faneuil Hall and sample from all the vendors inside Quincy market, then walk along the Freedom Trail. If the weather is nice, pack a picnic and people watch on the Esplanade, or enjoy a free movie or concert in the Summer. A Duck Tour is also a fun and casual date idea when the temperature is warm. On rainy or cold days, the Aquarium and Boston's many museums are an escape from the weather, and also provide great conversation starters. Planning a date that centers around the city gives you the opportunity to do things you might not normally take advantage of in Boston. Dating should be fun; these local dating ideas are all about fun, which puts you at ease and lets your personality shine through.
Think Outside the Traditional "Boston Dating" Box
The clubs and bars that make up the local dating scene for singles are definitely not a good choice for a date where you are trying to get to know someone. Dinner is a better option, but it is also the "old standby" that many people fall back on. Lunch or brunch is a more casual choice that instantly provides a relaxed atmosphere for both you and your date. Sporting events, either live or at a sports bar, are another laidback approach to a date. There is a team for every type of sports fan in Boston; dating a fellow Bostonian means you most likely will not have to worry about team rivalry. Bowling, playing pool or hitting at batting cages allow for some healthy, good-natured competition. If you are more of an indoor person, try an Imax movie or an indie film at a smaller theater instead of a major Cineplex.
Do Dinner Differently
If you decide to go with a dinner date, try a weeknight. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are less crowded in Boston. "Date night" is usually Friday or Saturday, so restaurants and bars are more packed, and there is the added pressure that comes from the constant reminder that you are on a date. Pick a themed restaurant or try a new cuisine (check with your date first) to make the date more fun. Try an authentic sushi bar, dine tapas style or go for dim sum brunch. If you want a creative spin on dinner and drinks, take a tour of a local brewery before or after dinner. There are so many restaurants to choose from in Boston; dating gives you an excuse to try them all.
